facials: everything you need to know
Facials are a popular way to rejuvenate the skin and improve its overall appearance. They are typically performed by a skincare specialist in a spa or salon setting, and can include a variety of treatments such as cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, and moisturizing.
Before purchasing a facial, it’s important to understand the different types of facials available. The most common types include:
Basic Facial: This is a basic cleansing and moisturizing treatment that is suitable for all skin types.
Deep Cleansing Facial: This type of facial is designed to thoroughly cleanse the skin, remove impurities, and unclog pores.
Anti-Aging Facial: This type of facial is designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin elasticity.
Acne Facial: This type of facial is designed to target and improve acne-prone skin.
Brightening Facial: This type of facial is designed to lighten and brighten the skin, and reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
cleansing
SKIN CLEANSERS
Step 1 in the anti-aging treatment process is cleansing the skin. In order to treat the skin properly, we must ensure that it is clean. It is senseless to apply exfoliating scrubs, toners and other lotions and serums if the skin is not sensibly cleaned of most if not all dirt, grime and bacteria. Over the span of your day you are liable to buildup oils from sweat and your body’s natural oil secretion (some more than others). This build up needs to be maintained! We recommend washing your face 2-3 times per day(in the morning, after work and perhaps 1 more time before bed) with a cleanser that is well suited for the sensitivity and oil levels of your skin.
At Eleven11 Laser + Skincare, we will recommend customized treatments for the current condition of your skin.
exfoliation
WHAT IS EXFOLIATION?
Exfoliation is one of the most important steps when it comes to the anti-aging process. This is the process of shedding dead skin cells. Doing so aides the body in the ability to create new cells which induces collagen production. Collagen is the protein that is responsible for skin elasticity or basically what keeps skin “tight”. Over time, due mainly to gravity and other weathering agents of the epidermis, your skin becomes looser and this is mostly due to a loss of collagen as well as a drop in production.
toning
SHRINK THE APPEARNCE OF PORES WITH THE PROPER TONER
After cleansing and exfoliating the skin, the next step is usually to apply toner. This of course depends on your skin type. Toner usually comes in the form of a lotion, tonic or wash. It’s main purpose is to reduce the appearance and size of the pores on your skin! It is very common for toners to come with a little bit of moisturizing capabilities so that your skin does not dry out from the cleansing and exfoliating processes.
moisturize
MOISTURIZING SKIN & IT’S BENEFITS
The last part of the anti-aging skin cleansing process is our favorite, MOISTURIZE! This part of the process leaves your skin feeling replenished, healthy and gives you that glow we are all yearning for.
Moisturizing your skin comes with other added benefits such as SPF and providing your skin with a barrier against irritation and elements such as the sun, the cold and the wind. Well moisturized skin helps prevent dryness which can lead to cracking and well, wrinkles!
not all facials are created equal
It’s important to note that not all facials are created equal. Thus, it’s important to communicate with the esthetician or skincare specialist about your skincare concerns and goals before getting a facial. They will be able to recommend the best type of facial for your skin type and concerns.
Another important factor to consider before getting a facial is the ingredients used in the products. Some people may have sensitive skin or allergies to certain ingredients, so it’s important to ask about the products that will be used during the facial and check the ingredient list.
Additionally, it’s also important to ask about the sterilization and sanitation procedures that are used in the salon or spa. Make sure they follow proper hygiene and sanitation guidelines to avoid potential infection or irritation.
what is the diamond glow facial?
A Diamond Glow facial is a type of facial treatment that uses a diamond-tipped wand to exfoliate and resurface the skin. The wand is attached to a device that uses suction to remove dead skin cells and impurities while also promoting collagen production.
During the treatment, the diamond-tipped wand is passed over the skin, removing the top layer of dead skin cells. This process helps to brighten and smooth the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.
The Diamond Glow facial also includes the use of a serum or hydrating mask to nourish the skin and provide additional benefits such as hydration, brightening and anti-aging.
The diamond-tip wand is considered to be less abrasive than traditional microdermabrasion methods, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It is also gentle enough to use on the delicate skin around the eyes and mouth.
It’s important to note that this treatment can be slightly aggressive for some people, and it’s important to communicate with the esthetician or skincare specialist about your skincare concerns and goals before getting a Diamond Glow facial. They will be able to recommend the best type of facial for your skin type and concerns.
It’s also recommend to have a patch test before to ensure that you don’t have any adverse reactions.
In summary, Diamond Glow facial is a non-invasive treatment that uses a diamond-tipped wand to exfoliate and resurface the skin. It helps to brighten and smooth the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the overall texture and tone of the skin. It’s suitable for all skin types, but it’s still recommended to consult with a skincare professional before getting the treatment.
what is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation procedure that uses a small, sterile, surgical scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz (vellus hair) from the face. The procedure is typically performed by a licensed esthetician or skincare professional in a spa or salon setting.
The procedure begins with the skin being cleaned and prepped. The esthetician will then hold the skin taut and use the scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz, working in small, circular motions. The procedure typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete.
Dermaplaning can be beneficial for a variety of skin types and concerns. It can help to:
- Remove dead skin cells and smooth the skin’s texture
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve the penetration and effectiveness of skincare products
- Brighten the skin’s overall appearance
- Remove vellus hair, which can trap dirt and oil, leading to clogged pores and acne
It’s important to note that the vellus hair will grow back, but it will be softer and finer, and the procedure is not recommended for people with active acne, sunburn, or skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema.
It’s also important to ensure that the esthetician or skincare professional performing the procedure is licensed and properly trained, and that they use sterile equipment and follow proper sanitation procedures.
